Bait and Switch

They say that babies at this age (0 to 3 months) aren't supposed to get spoiled. SUPPOSEDLY. I keep reading that from books and forums and people keep telling me that too.

Of course, my boy has to be the exception to the rule. A few days ago, he wouldn't let me put him down - he would scream like a banshee a couple of minutes after I put him down in his crib - so he spent the whole day in my arms and my back hurt like **** after that.

The next day, I decided to make him get used to sleeping by himself in his crib again, I didn't want him to get used to being carried all day long. So I kept putting him in his crib and soothed him with his pacifier, by playing soft music, talking softly to him, and by patting his leg / thigh gently. This worked for a while because I refused to pick him up when he starts crying.

By afternoon, he adapted - and for the sci-fi geeks out there, he adapted like a Borg or a replicator *teehee*.

He would cry & fuss and show signs of being hungry. He would lick his lips, lick his hands and bring his hand to his cheek (sign of milk). I'd approach him and put a finger to his cheek and he would snap his head around to try and eat my finger (we call this the "T-rex" move). So I'd conclude that he's still hungry, right ?

So I get his milk bottle ready and pick him up. The moment he's nestled in my arms, he goes "ngorrrrrk" - he starts snoring. At times, I would even be able to get the bottle into his mouth before he starts snoring. He pulled this bait-and-switch tactic on me all afternoon.

As for me, I was so amused by his antics that I let him fool me all day long.
