Easter Crafts

Mommy doesn't have work today so we decided to just keep Swe-cha home (from daycare) and have some quality time together.

We did this Mommy Duck and Ducklings handprint art first. 

Got the idea from his daycare. At first I thought these are supposed to be chickens but in retrospect, I think they look more like ducks. 

Also, the work at his daycare only showed 5 little ducklings so it might be related to the Five Little Ducks song, which, by the way, is one of Swe-cha's favorites these days.

Then, still on a high from our earlier success and after realizing that the first artwork was ducks and not chicks, Mommy decided to make another piece of artwork with an Easter theme this time. I looked for Easter Bunny ideas and this was the one I liked best. I looked for a bunny cartoon and erased the bunny ears in MS Paint.  

Run

It makes me happy to report that these days, we've progressed from labeling objects, shapes, colors and numbers.

- Swe-cha is learning to count for real. It used to be that he'd point to, say, 3 objects repeatedly until he exhausts numbers 1 to 20. Now, there are times when he'll stop at the right number and say "1 duck", "2 apes" or "3 balls" and so on.

- He identifies actions now. He'll point to a child running and say "run".

- He also recognizes most of the alphabet although he gets confused with some letters such as O which he will identify as a 0 (the number) and N which he will identify as a Z (turn the N sideways and it looks like a Z).

Me!

Mommy: Who's my baby ?
Swe-cha: ME! [points to his chest with both hands]

Mommy: Who's [Swe-cha's name] ?
Swe-cha: ME! [points to his chest with both hands]

Uh Oh!

I looked out the window, saw snow and said, "Swe-cha, look ! Look! It's snowing!".

He looks out, puts his hands on his cheeks and says "uh oh!".

Magnifying Glass

While cleaning up, Daddy found a small magnifying glass that was part of a loot bag from a long time ago. He gives this to Swe-cha and immediately, Swe-cha puts it over his eye and starts peering at his toys through the magnifying glass.

We were amazed.

To our knowledge, this is the first time that Swe-cha has ever seen or played with a magnifying glass and if this is true, then is the usage instinctive ? Does one know right away how to use it ?

But then again, he's probably seen these things at school.

Colors, Shapes and Numbers

I have been remiss in keeping track of Swe-cha's progress so I'll start making an effort these days. It's so much easier to see how much he knows now because he does respond to questions these days already.

Colors
He can identify when asked "what color ?" while pointing to objects:
Green - (eem)
Blue - (oooo)
Yellow - (e-ow)
Red - (ed)
White - (ite)
Black - (ack)
Orange - (oich)
Purple - (o-oy)
I've heard him say Brown (awn) a few times before but it was always after he is prompted by the iPad. I will look for a brown object one of these days so I can ask.
Brown - (awn) Confirmed na, he knows brown.

Numbers
He can count from 1 to 20, recognizes digits. He used to call 0 a "ten" but he's starting to identify it as "zero" every now and then. He probably learned it from school because it surely did not come from me.

He would put two digits together and say the number - say 1 and 2 and say twelve. He would sometimes interchange the sequence of the numbers - 2 and 1 - and still say twelve. I'm told by his teachers that this is okay (I asked if this was an indication of dyslexia, haha - paranoid, no ?).

I can also hold up my fingers and say "how many" ? and he'd tell me the number of fingers I have up.

Shapes
He can identify circle, diamond, heart, rectangle, square and triangle.
Edit: he also knows oval :)

How old are you ? 
He will answer 3 (eee) and hold out 3 fingers. Sometimes, he would tease me and say 4 or 5 while holding up the appropriate number of fingers but he will immediately fall down while giggling even before I react and say "you silly boy" - obviously, nanloloko. :-)

Chim-chiu
I have also successfully taught him how to kiss an elder's hand. Katuwa, he learned this so fast, a few tries lang and he would do it when prompted na.
