Month 7

Angkong and Ama dropped by for two weeks during Swe-Cha's 7th month. We enjoyed their stay and wish that they could stay longer. Two weeks isn't really enough to catch up on the past several months. Swe-cha enjoyed his time with his Angkong and Ama and loves being carried by Angkong up and down the hallways. They enjoy taking long walks around the compound (when Swe-cha gets bored at home). Sometimes, they can also be seen watching the birds, trees and squirrels out on the balcony.

Swe-Cha's 7th month saw him grow leaps and bounds in terms of mobility. He learned to crawl - with a lot of help from his Angkong who kept on putting him down on the mat and tempting him to move forward by putting interesting toys in front.

Solids-wise, we've added carrots, pears, sweet potato, and sweet pea to his diet. He loves sweet potato and always chases the spoon with his mouth.

He has two teeth now - his lower front incisors - and we're expecting more teeth to erupt in the next few weeks as he's almost always rubbing his gums. Poor guy, he's become very irritable due to his discomfort.

Self-feeding

Swe-cha didn't finish his rice cereal and sweet pea lunch earlier today. I threw the leftovers and chalked it down to him not being hungry - after all, he had just consumed 5 oz of milk between 10:40 - 11:40a and I was feeding him his lunch at around 1:30pm.

At dinnertime, I prepared his rice cereal and sweet pea again. He seemed to like eating at first but he would keep his mouth closed after the first few spoonfuls. When I try a push the spoon past his lips with a little bit of pressure, I could feel his jaws / gums locked as well.

Eh ?

I didn't what to make of that at first. I was sure that he wasn't full. In fact, he ought to be hungry! His most recent 5oz bottle of milk was finished 4 hrs ago. During feedings, I would sometimes play some videos to distract him and to encourage him to eat but this doesn't seem to work anymore lately.

Yesterday, dancing and singing (me) kept him eating. Today, those didn't work.

It was then that I noticed his interest in the spoon. He would always reach out to the spoon and try to grab it from me. He would try to grab the bowl as well. I went and got a spoon and put it in his hand and he promptly put the spoon (the right end!) into his mouth.

Aba! Inspiration struck :)

I guided his hand and dipped the spoon into the bowl to scoop up some cereal and veggies and guided the spoon into his mouth. Swe-cha dutifully opened his mouth.

AND.. *drum roll please*

He finished the entire bowl! Seems like my little boy is up for some self-feeding. Sana eto na. I'm all out of entertainment ideas.

Sweet Pea

Mommy and Swe-cha went to the grocery and chanced upon some good deals on baby food. With that, lunch today is Gerber Organic Sweet Pea with plain rice cereal.

Looks like this is a hit with Swe-cha.

Like father, like son

It was bedtime and I leave Swe-cha with his Daddy - it was Daddy's turn to put him to bed.

I go downstairs to clear up and I get back to this.

Daddy's explanation ? "Eh, ayaw matulog eh."

Pear

Started on Earth's Best organic pear today, he seems to have lost his previously-voracious appetite for solids. When given a taste of the pureed pear, he made this face that gave me the impression that the pear was sour or tart.

I tasted it, it wasn't bad. Hoping that the loss of appetite is a temporary setback.

Sleeping

When I turn around and see Swe-cha sleeping beside me, curled up in this position, I just want to gather him up in my arms and hug him tight.

This sight makes my heart melt.

Crawling

Swe-cha started crawling today - special thanks to Angkong who kept on encouraging him to move forward by placing tempting toys a few paces in front of him.
