First haircut of 2012

We took Swe-cha to the kiddie salon this morning for his first haircut of 2012.

He was still uncooperative and it was a struggle for everybody to keep him in place. My favorite part was when his haircutter asked him "don't you like me ?" and he vehemently shook his head. Everybody - 2 other hair cutters and 4 parents - laughed and yes, they were all looking at us.

Not surprisingly, there are parts of his hair that still seem a bit crooked. Thankfully, it's not as crooked as the last time.

Daddy is not too happy about how Swe-cha's hair turned out. He thinks it's too short and I keep explaining that with a struggling toddler, there was no way that I was going to permit scissors near him so there's really no choice.

As I look at his before and after pics, I realize that we really shouldn't be waiting this long between haircuts.

Get up

Today, I pretended to still be asleep when Swe-cha woke up. Like he usually does, he moves around the bed, plays w/ his mobile-turned-musical-projector and then he comes over to me and said, "Mamamamama, UP."

He pokes me in the eye, "UP UP".

I still pretended to sleep.

And then slowly and deliberately, he says "Geeeeet up."

and so I got up :)

Pack away

Tonight, we (successfully) taught Swe-cha how to pack away his toys. Specifically, his bath toys. We made it a game, pick up a toy & drop it into the toy basket and we'd clap & praise him, "good job".

When the toys are all packed away, it means that we're done bathing and he should leave the tub na.

Shape sorter

We got this shape sorter for Swe-cha when he was a few months old but never really used it the way that it was meant to be used. He would just throw the blocks / shapes around and shout "aaaah" while doing that. It wasn't long after this shape sorter was relegated to the toy pile and forgotten.

Recently, I've been cleaning out his play area and putting away his old toys in an effort to make space for a toddler table & chair. When he saw this, natuwa siya, he took my hand and put my hand on a block. My thought was that he wanted me to show him how to play with this.

So I started getting the shapes, "this is a circle. See ? and look at this hole, it's a circle too... the circle shape goes in the circle here." I did that for all the other shapes - square, triangle, cross and a star.

After doing all the shapes once, alam na nya and he was playing on his own. By his 2nd cycle, he would look at the shape in his hand and directly target the corresponding hole in the container na. Sometimes, he would even try to shout out the name of the shape before he puts it in the hole (yun nga lang, half-words lang like "ang" for triangle, "errr" for square and then he would also just open/close his fingers to signal "star").

This may not seem so significant because a shape-sorter isn't really an advanced toy. But today, I realized that my son can understand instructions and learns quickly if he is interested.

Daycare

Normally, Swe-cha doesn't know that we're going to daycare (DC) until I slow down in front of his DC bldg and start to park, that is when he starts crying.

Today, as I normally do when I'm dropping him off at DC, I told him "You're going to daycare today, you be a good boy at daycare okay ? And then tomorrow, you're staying home with Mommy."

I don't usually get any response when I say that but today, he looks at me and cries, "Waaaah!"

That confirms it, he understands when I talk to him.
