One!

We got another set of ultrasound pictures. Baby is much bigger now and actually looks more human. We saw a head, the body, the hands and the feet. Heartbeat is also good and strong at 190 bpm (this is much faster than the 120 bmp that was detected the last time). I'm thinking that baby might have been excited when the ultrasound was being done.

All of a sudden, I remembered a snippet of conversation that I had with my doctor during my last ultrasound visit:

"Doc, how many babies do you see ? There's one, right ? Just one ?"

"Yes, there's just the one," he confirmed.

And I breathed a sigh of relief. You see, weeks before, I had dreamt that I was pregnant with triplets and it felt so real! The moment I woke up, I rushed off to our 2nd bedroom - the one which will become the nursery - and looked around.

I muttered a four letter word and thought, how am I supposed to fit 3 of everything in here ? 3 sets of clothes, 3 cribs, 3 baby strollers, ... It took a few minutes before I realized that it was only a dream and that I was not even pregnant yet.

Two days ago, MIL called and talked to hubby. They normally converse in Cantonese and unless I concentrate hard, everything they say just flies over my head. I found it very endearing when I suddenly realized that hubby was talking our ultrasound pictures - how he saw our baby's head and extremeties. He was so happy and excited and really just being a good expectant father. Kinilig naman ako.

What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding

We received our first baby-related books last weekend, courtesy of very good friends I & her husband, J - Thanks!

Aliw because we started reading the book for husbands, "What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding", and came across the section which lists the things that your wife will complain about. Among them are:

- morning sickness

- no morning sickness so there must be something wrong!

and I have to admit that I'm guilty of this. 

I've been feeling nauseous this week but I think that is a hungry-signal because it usually goes away when I get a bite to eat (bread, crackers, etc). But before that, I wasn't feeling anything at all so I was getting worried too.

First Pictures

We saw baby for the first time today, we also got to hear his/her heartbeat. It was good, strong and loud! We were so happy... and relieved.

Ultrasound shows that baby is currently 6 weeks and 3 days old. So that explains why we did not see anything last week and come to think of it, I do ovulate late in my period so our baby's age is consistent with my cycle.

Heartbeat was at a steady 120bpm. I cannot even begin to describe how I felt when I heard the steady beating of our baby's heart.



Our families each have their own guesses & hopes as to our baby's gender and I can't wait to see who guessed right. As for hubby and me ? We're just so thankful for this gift of life and just pray for a healthy and normal baby.

No show

We were so excited when we drove up to the clinic today, we were looking forward to seeing a first glimpse of our baby and hopefully, hear the heartbeat too. 

Ultrasound picked up a gestational but no embryo.  Dr. Mclaughlin said that it might just be too early and asked us to come in again the following week. 

When we got home, I started panicking and doing google searches on what was supposed to come out in the ultrasound images at around the 5th, 6th and 7th weeks of pregnancy. If I count starting from my LMP, I was already in my 6th week and the baby was supposed to be visible already. 

Panic started setting in and I start praying hard. Hubby was more optimistic and confident (or at least so far as I could see) and insisted that we wait a week more and we'll surely see our baby.
