World of Wings

I have been looking for a place where we could bring Swe-cha to look at butterflies since early this year and unfortunately, we missed the butterfly exhibit in NY (it was either at the Met or the AMNH).

I found "WOW Butterflies" on the internet and was so excited to see that it was within 30 minutes drive from our house. I was so disappointed to find out that they have closed. That put an end to my butterfly-sanctuary search.

Some months later, Swe-cha's daycare announced a series of field trips for the summer and that was when I saw "World of Wings" in their list. It was in the same general area of WOW Butterflies and I assumed that this is from the same operator as the one I was looking at earlier.

This morning, we finally got the chance to bring Swe-cha there and boy, oh, boy, it was so worth the trip!

Admission fees are $16 for adults and $11 for children. They have a $2 off coupon somewhere on their website.

The place is huge! We were there from the time they opened at 10am, left around 1pm and we barely covered half of what they offered.

There was an butterfly / insect museum, an area with a few reptiles and amphibians, and an indoor atrium with several bird species (mostly finches) and butterflies. We got to see them all close-hand.

There was a water feature - waterfalls and a koi pond - where we got to observe some turtles and fishes swimming.

Needless to say, this was a hit with Swe-cha.

It was a small atrium and we kept going round and round the path to look at all the wonderful creatures.

Eventually, we decided to go back inside the building and look for the "soft play area" and made a mental note to come back to the atrium again in time for their butterfly release at 12:30.

When we finally got to the soft play area on the 2nd floor (after passing through a kitchen playroom, bubble room, a train room, some shops, a dress up area and party rooms), Swe-cha's eyes lit up when he saw that there was another train room!

He played there for a few minutes before heading out to the other areas to explore.

He played in the blue screen room, the open house area, library, and soft toys areas. He had so much fun!

But best of all, he had the most fun in the ball pit (forgot what this was called). He was wary at first and didn't want to go in. He would just reach in for the balls and later, when he saw other kids go in, he went back and just dove right in. We were so proud :)
