Self-feeding

Swe-cha didn't finish his rice cereal and sweet pea lunch earlier today. I threw the leftovers and chalked it down to him not being hungry - after all, he had just consumed 5 oz of milk between 10:40 - 11:40a and I was feeding him his lunch at around 1:30pm.

At dinnertime, I prepared his rice cereal and sweet pea again. He seemed to like eating at first but he would keep his mouth closed after the first few spoonfuls. When I try a push the spoon past his lips with a little bit of pressure, I could feel his jaws / gums locked as well.

Eh ?

I didn't what to make of that at first. I was sure that he wasn't full. In fact, he ought to be hungry! His most recent 5oz bottle of milk was finished 4 hrs ago. During feedings, I would sometimes play some videos to distract him and to encourage him to eat but this doesn't seem to work anymore lately.

Yesterday, dancing and singing (me) kept him eating. Today, those didn't work.

It was then that I noticed his interest in the spoon. He would always reach out to the spoon and try to grab it from me. He would try to grab the bowl as well. I went and got a spoon and put it in his hand and he promptly put the spoon (the right end!) into his mouth.

Aba! Inspiration struck :)

I guided his hand and dipped the spoon into the bowl to scoop up some cereal and veggies and guided the spoon into his mouth. Swe-cha dutifully opened his mouth.

AND.. *drum roll please*

He finished the entire bowl! Seems like my little boy is up for some self-feeding. Sana eto na. I'm all out of entertainment ideas.
